Assignments and
Due Dates
English - Guided Essay - Due March 12th
In writing, students are working on a guided essay where all of the research and background information has been provided for them. Their focus is on organizing the information clearly, structuring their paragraphs properly, and putting their ideas together in a logical and cohesive way.
French - House Project - Due March 3rd
In French, students are creating a foldable paper house where they label each room in French and include at least five items found in that space. They will also write simple sentences explaining what happens in each room, helping them practice vocabulary, sentence structure, and everyday language in a meaningful context.

Science - Crystallization Lab - No Date Set Yet
In this lab, students are exploring how crystals form by creating a supersaturated solution and observing how dissolved particles arrange themselves into repeating patterns as the solution cools or evaporates.

Math Equations Practice Booklet - Due March 6th
The Equations Practice Booklet allows students to choose a level and complete a set number of questions from each section, ensuring they practice a variety of equation types. Answer keys are provided at the back for self checking, and students must carefully read the instructions to determine whether to solve by inspection or by using opposite operations. If students need help - there are notes pages located on my math page. This is not for homework but their test will be next week.

Science - Crystalline Solids Notes
Classroom Notes on Crystalline Solids. Students will learn that solids can be classified as crystalline or amorphous based on how their particles are arranged. They will understand that crystalline solids have a repeating, organized lattice structure, which gives them specific properties like a sharp melting point and geometric shapes. Through hands on investigation, they will observe how crystals form and connect particle arrangement to the visible properties of materials.

Paleolithic Tools
Math Apartment Blue Print Project - February 6th
The Blueprint Project is a real world math design challenge where students create a scale drawing of their own apartment or dream living space.
Students are given specific criteria and design constraints, just like real architects. They must design a functional space that includes required rooms and features while staying within a set area and scale.
What Students Do:
• Choose a scale such as 1 cm equals 1 m
• Design a floor plan on grid paper
• Include required rooms such as bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living area
• Measure and calculate area and perimeter of each space
• Label dimensions clearly
• Create a final blueprint with straight lines, symbols, and precision
• Add furniture using nets or scaled templates
• Ensure everything fits proportionally

What They Are Learning
This project integrates multiple Grade 7 math concepts:
• Scale and proportional reasoning
• Area and perimeter
• Measurement conversions
• Geometry
• Transformations
• Problem solving
• Precision and mathematical communication
It also strengthens executive functioning skills like organization, planning, and revising work. Students quickly realize that math is not just numbers on a worksheet. It is design, logic, and spatial reasoning in action.

Science - DC (Direct Current) Powered Car Project
The DC Powered Propeller Car Project is a hands on engineering challenge where students design, build, and test a small car powered by a direct current motor and a propeller.
Students are not just building a car. They are:
• Applying the scientific method
• Testing variables
• Collecting data
• Improving designs
• Explaining forces and energy transfer

Handout
Science - Molecules Lab - Dec 13th
Students used their knowledge on bonds and made molecules with plasticine and toothpicks.

Hominids Note Taking - Test Thursday Dec 11th
Students are to take organized notes from the information sheets. They will be allowed to take these notes into the test on Thursday reinforcing the importance or organized notes.

Element Research Project
Getting to Know the Elements
Students researched a element of choice and turned it into a scrapbook page.

Parts of Speech Quiz
We will have a Parts of Speech Quiz on Friday, November 21st. Students will be quizzed on their knowledge of all parts of speech. See reference handout:

Soldier Biography Now Due: Monday, Nov 17th
Each year for Remembrance Day, I have students complete an activity that focuses on Canada’s involvement in world conflicts. This year, students will be exploring primary source documents written by Canadian soldiers who served in the First World War, Second World War, Korean War, or in later peacekeeping missions.
Their task will be to read soldiers’ letters and related background information in order to create a short biography about one of these individuals. Through this project, students will gain a deeper understanding of the personal experiences and sacrifices made by Canadians in times of war.
Students will be using materials from the Canadian Letters and Images Project, a digital archive created by a professor at Vancouver Island University. You are welcome to explore the collection at www.canadianletters.ca.

Order of Operations with Negative Numbers
Due November 14
We explored Orders of Operations (BEDMAS - Same as PEDMAS) with negative integers. Students are to complete a minimum of 20 questions in their booklet, they can be a combination of any of the 3 sections - mild, medium, spicy. Please remind students they have their guided notes in their notebooks to help guide them and the math page on this website, there is a explanation video. On Wednesday, this will be day 3 working on the booklet. Quiz is next Wednesday, November 19th.
Getting to Know the Elements Due November 14
Students explored the Periodic Table of Elements through an interactive research-based activity. Using a visual online periodic table, learners investigate and record key information such as element states, abundance, uses, and group characteristics (e.g., noble gases, metals, radioactive elements). Students identified patterns across the table and make real-world connections between elements and everyday materials (e.g., batteries, paint, bones, and chlorophyll).
Atom Guided Notes & Assignment Due November 7
Here are the attached guided notes we took in class to start off our Chemistry unit. Please see attached Atoms assignment.

Country Project - Due October 31st
We are wrapping up our Geography unit with an exciting Create a Country project! Students have been applying what they’ve learned about mapping, latitude, and longitude, as well as applying knowledge about landforms, climate, resources, and government to design their own original countries. This project allows them to think creatively while demonstrating their understanding of geographic concepts and how they influence daily life.
